August 2022: I have been appointed as an Assistant Professor in English & African American and African Studies at the University of Virginia.
May 2022: My book, The Right to Opacity, has been awarded a Diverse Fellows Grant by Princeton University Press.

August 2021: I have been appointed as the Peters Rushton Visiting Assistant Professor of English at the University of Virginia.
June 2021: I have been named one of the Top 200 Young South Africans by the Mail & Guardian.

2 December 2020: I will give a paper on M.NourbeSe Philip’s Zong! at Cornell University.
In April 2020, I will present a paper on Édouard Glissant at Brown University’s Pembroke Centre.
March 2020: My dissertation, Reaching for Opacity, has been awarded Cornell University’s Guilford Prize for the best dissertation of the year.

I have been awarded the Inaugural Shauna M. Stark ’76, P’10 Postdoctoral Fellowship at Brown University for 2019–2020.
1 November 2019: I will visit Cornell University to participate in a panel discussion about Martin Hägglund’s new book This Life.
In March 2020, I will present a paper at a conference organized by the Consortium of Critical Theory on “The University After Globalization” at the University of Santa Barbara.
